The Diet Solution Program - a Straightforward Review

Let's face it - disrupting your body's metabolism while starving yourself is not an easy lifestyle to maintain. Anyone who has tried to diet has probably gone through the pain and suffering of losing weight for a while only to lose momentum due to a sickness, vacation, family event, or just plain hunger!

Add to that all of the new fad diets that try to reduce or remove one of the primary food composition groups - carbohydrates, fats, or proteins. Although these diets can reduce weight, upsetting your body's metabolism and nutrition can only lead to fatigue, stress and hunger.

However, it is truly refreshing when someone comes along with with diet solution that focuses on an easier lifestyle change with the added benefit of nutritional value. Isabel De Los Rios has done just that!

In her new dieting book, The Diet Solution Program, she has brought together the best of her background in sports nutrition and physiolog y with a focus on metabolic typing to create a workable natural weight loss guide that really makes sense.

Her basic dieting concept is that with the right foods, you can eat sizable quantities and lose weight at the same time. Most dieters decrease their food intake so much when they want to lose weight that they do lose some pounds, then quickly level off. At that point, they have no recourse but to eat even less food, which triggers starvation mode and makes losing weight and feeling good very hard, if not impossible.

Don't be fooled by this ebook - Isabel De Los Rios packs a ton of information in a full 180 pages of background, inspiration, food & nutrition information - as well as menus, charts and journal templates. This is a complete guide that changes your thinking about food, metabolism and the simple preparation steps you need to lose weight naturally.

Her book is divided up into three major sections:

Part 1 - Focuse s on a personal program for success describing the three steps to weight loss, metabolic typing, and how to plan your meals in order to get the best results for your own diet type.

Part 2 - Specifically dives into very detailed information on good vs. bad foods - what to eat and what to avoid. Plus, immediate action steps to remove or change your household habits. Packed with over 50 recipes in 61 pages using all of the requirements and recommendations for good food in your diet.

Part 3 - Contains all the tools to measure your metabolic typing, Dietary charts (such as glycemic index, food portions) and data, meal journal templates, as well as full day-by-day example of menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.

My only criticism of this guide is really just a small point - that is, as much as I know the author wants to promote good nutrition, there really isn't any section devoted to modern lifestyle choices you can make while at work or on the roa d.

It would be great to have some backup options such as fast food alternatives or less expensive non-organic market choices. Trying to get organic food or plan out our lunches at work is difficult for many of us with busy lives. It would have been nice to see a section of some options for those on the run. However, that kind of planning is really something you can easily develop on your own using this guide.

All in all this is a highly recommended dieting guide - it focuses on balanced foods, nutrition, and proper health to lose weight naturally. As always, no diet is guaranteed - and it is up to you to keep on track to get the benefits.

Why Popular Diets Don't Work

They are all touted as "breakthroughs." They all promise to give you a sexy figure, long life, energy, and vitality. They are the popular diet books found in many bookstores today. And most of them are being gobbled up by people who are sick of their bodies and know the dangers of obesity.

For the poor hopeless souls who have tried just about everything to lose weight, it's hard to resist these "miracle" diets with their wild promises. They offer a ray of hope to those who are looking for fast cures to a weighty problem. However, what most people don't know is that there are no instant ways to get rid of unwanted fat.

"Most books which start off by telling you they are breakthroughs are simply misinforming their readers because there are currently no breakthroughs in the weight loss field," according to Dr. Jack Yetiv, a nutrition expert and pharmacologist. Just as it took years to build up that bulge, the same amount of time is needed to los e it.

"Many people are unsuccessful at losing weight because they get discouraged with the results. If you don't have realistic expectations, it is easy to become frustrated. Becoming overweight is not an overnight phenomenon; it takes months, even years, to accumulate that added weight. Reversing the process takes an equal amount of time. You have to be willing to invest the time and effort if the weight you want to lose is body fat," according to Consumer Guide's "Cholesterol: Your Guide for a Healthy Heart."

Diet programs that assure you of constant weight loss of more than two or three pounds a week without exercise or controlling your eating habits are not being completely honest. While it is possible to lose up to 10 or 20 pounds in a few days, what is lost is water not fat. This form of weight loss is not permanent and can easily be regained by drinking water. As such, it adds more insult to injury to a frustrated dieter who has spent a l ot of time and money on a worthless remedy.

But what is even more alarming is the fact that certain diets are nutritionally unsound. That's because they were developed by advertising experts rather than nutritionists. As Paul Insel and Wilton Roth said in "Core Concepts in Health:

"Another factor promoting diet and food faddism is the rapid proliferation of unqualified nutrition consultants. The California Council Against Health Fraud (CCAHF) noted that the number of 'degree mills' offering mail order diplomas in nutrition counseling is rapidly increasing. Graduates advertise themselves as 'nutritional consultants' with academic credentials when they are nothing more than salespeople armed with nutritional misinformation preying on an unsuspecting public."

To protect yourself from nutrition quackery and food faddism, here are some questions you should ask yourself before trying any diet:

Does it have any real advantages over existing or conventional diets? Most fad diets have a gimmick, such as eating grapefruit or using liquid-protein supplements. Do these gimmicks work or are they only a means of attracting attention to the diet?

Is the diet easy to follow? Fasting, for instance, produces a weight loss but it requires a great deal of will power. Most people cannot keep it up for long.

Does the diet provide any long-term modification of eating habits that will allow the weight loss to be maintained after the diet is over? Many diets, such as liquid-protein diets and fasting, and diet aids such as drugs, can produce weight loss. However, because eating behavior is not changed, the person usually regains the weight.

Does the diet present any hazard to health? Very restrictive diets may lead to malnutrition; others, such as liquid-protein diets, have caused injury and even death.

To enhance your diet and exercise program, a good suppleme nt may help. One popular brand is Zylorin that will energize your workouts and speed up your metabolism for maximum fat loss. For details, go to http://www.zylorin.com.

The New Beverly Hills Diet: Eating the Right Combination of Foods at the Right Time

Whether or not you're a resident of a posh village or don't know anyone living in any upscale neighborhood, this diet could be the one that would suit you.

The New Beverly Hills Diet was conceptualized by the late weight loss supporter and lifestyle counselor, Judy Mazel (1943-2007) who penned the best-selling diet book, "The Beverly Hills Diet" that started to hit the book shelves in 1981. The diet is on a weekly basis and initially lasts up to 42 days but now was trimmed down to 35 days. Those will try on this diet can lose from 10 up to 15 pounds. The late creator of this diet even attested that after trying her own conceptualized diet, she lost a remarkable 72 pounds!

The New Beverly Hills Diet is more about having a balanced diet and lifestyle which is to be observed every week by having the proper set of foods and consuming them at an appropriate time. This is actually the foundation of this diet: the "conscious com bining" or in other words being mindful of the things you eat and on when you eat the.

Mazel declared that people mustn't focus much on the kind of foods they eat (be it meat, grains, dairy products) and on how many servings they have of those foods. According to her, what truly matters most would be the right combination of foods to eat and the right time to eat them. This is what "conscious combining" is all about.

To illustrate: when someone would eat rice (which is carbohydrates) and fish (which is protein), the combination is not good. Why? Unmatched food will destroy digestive enzymes and when these enzymes are destroyed, one will gain weight as what the New Beverly Hills Diet talks about. Therefore, it should be carbohydrates to be eaten with fellow carbohydrates and protein meal to be consumed with another protein-rich food. If it'll be fruits, then one has to eat fruits alone and nothing more else (suggested ones are watermelo n, pineapples and grapes).

Champagne is allowed in the New Beverly Hills Diet and if you want to adhere to the concept of "conscious combination", you might want to try on this diet. More interesting details are actually offered at Diet Fads.

5 Weight Loss Diet Plans for Diabetics

Have you just learned you have diabetes and your doctor recommends you lose weight? Finding an easy diabetic weight loss diet may seem difficult.

Trying to find a good weight loss program is hard enough. It may also seem an impossible task to find a good diabetic weight loss diet. This is where we may help out, by explaining 5 different diabetic weight loss diet options.

5 Diabetic Weight Loss Options:

Diabetic Food Exchange Diet: This diabetic diet plan is one of the main eating plans that doctors prescribe to people with diabetes. It may be confusing at first, yet once you understand its concept, you will find that it has two positive outcomes. It will help you lose weight and maintain your blood sugar.

The diabetic food exchange diet groups similar foods together. Each group lists certain foods that may be eaten and the exact portion that may be eaten. Measuring the food portions exactly is very important on this diabetic weight loss diet. It is also important to eat on a very regular schedule.

Diabetic Food Pyramid: This diabetic food plan is easier to understand and implement than the diabetic food exchange diet. With this plan the foods are separated into different groups. The food group that allows the most servings is the base of the food pyramid. The next set of groups of foods follow up the pyramid, with the top of the pyramid representing the food group allowed the list.

You can lose weight on this diet and be satisfied, if you stay within the servings allowed each group and choose healthy, low calorie foods.

Atkins Diabetic Diet: This is a well known diet found in the Atkins diet books series. The book, Atkins Diabetes Revolution, offers diabetic meal plans allowing three different levels of carbohydrate consumption. This diet plan begins with the person having only 20 grams of carbohydrates a day. Gradually, 40 grams of carbs are allowed, and finally, 60 grams of carbs are allowed per day. This diabetic weight loss diet may be a bit extreme for many people because it almost eliminates breads, rice and potatoes. Many people have been able to manage their diabetes and lose weight with this diet.

Nutrisystem Diabetic Diet Plan: The diabetic weight loss diet plan offered by Nutrisystem may be considered one of the most convenient diabetic weight loss options. The diabetic meals are specifically made for people with diabetes Type II. They are low calorie pre-packaged and pre-portioned, and require no refrigeration. Fresh vegetables, fruits and dairy products will need to be added to fully balance the diet. If you are "on the go" and have a hard time with meal planning, this diabetic weight loss plan should be considered.

Medifast Diabetic Diet Plan: This diabetic diet weight loss plan claims to help you lose 20 pounds in 30 days. Medifast has a simple, yet powerful diet plan called "5 in 1." This means, you choose 5 items to eat a day from Medifast's prepackaged meals, and make your own one "lean and green" meal a day. The "lean and green" meal should consist of a lean meat and green vegetable. Many people with diabetes and weight issues have been help greatly with Medifast's diabetic diet plan.

Any one of the above diabetic diet weight loss plans can help you manage your diabetes and weight loss goals.

A Short History of Dieting and Diet Pills

The term "diet" is a reference to what is eaten or consumed by any type of animal (including humans), so technically man -- and woman -- has been dieting for as long as we've been walking the earth. But weight-loss diets are a different story. So who was the first weight-loss dieter? Who first marketed weight loss as a bottle full of diet pills? Join me, and we'll find out.

The First Weight-Loss Dieter?

During the Middle Ages, obesity was considered an incurable condition and was associated with people who with little or no morals. But since the common peasant had could barely get enough to eat to stay alive, obesity wasn't much of a problem.

However, for the wealthy obesity could become an issue. Story has it that William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy during the 11th century, had gained so much weight by 1087 that he could no longer get on his horse. William was famous for leading his army to victory at the Battle of Hastings, and not being able to get up on his trusty steed was hurtful to his image as a courageous leader.

So he came up with a plan to shed a few pounds by going on a strict alcohol diet. Yep, he (or as the story goes) attempted to lose weight by consuming alcohol and nothing but. Obviously, that's a very bad idea. However, William must have experienced some success since he died later that year... after falling off his horse.

The story of William the Conqueror's attempts at weight loss is mostly rumor and conjecture. But if it's true, then it is the first recorded instance we have of an attempt to modify one's diet specifically to lose weight.

The Low Carb Diet

When you think about the low-carbohydrate diet, the first thing that comes to mind is probably Dr. Robert Atkins, creator of the Atkins Diet. But the truth is that Dr. Atkins based his diet plan on the writings of one William Banting, and Englishman who wrote was is perhaps the first diet book.

During the mid-19th century, William Banting had tried to lose weight using a variety of methodologies such as fasting. However, under the supervision of his physician, Dr. William Harvey, Banting finally found success. Dr. Harvey put Banting on a low-carbohydrate diet free from starches and saccharine, encouraging the intake of proteins, greens, and fruits.

So successful was Banting that he felt a need to tell the world, so he published a book about it. Today, Banting's name is used to mean "diet" in England.

The Advent of Diet Pills

By the 20th century, science was advancing in the area of how the human body works. Marketing was also advancing, and as obese persons were discovered as a mark for snake oil salesmen, the market for diet pills began to grow.

It's not certain what the first diet pill to enjoy widespread success was, but modern diet pills work by modifying the metabolism or suppre ssing the appetite. The diet pills market is bigger today than it ever has been with a hoard of both prescription and over the counter dieting drugs available, and even many "natural" diet pills being marketed to the world.

The snake oil salesman is still alive and well in today's diet pills market, so watch your step and talk with your doctor.

French Women Don't Get Fat - Book Review

French women seem to enjoy breads, desserts, and wine, but then don't gain the weight. American women, on the other hand, just think about snacking and magically put on ten pounds. In her bestselling book, French Women Don't Get Fat : The Secret of Eating For Pleasure, Mirelle Guiliano reveals the secrets that French women have at staying healthy and trim.

French Women Don't Get Fat begins with the account of the author, Mirelle Guiliano, growing up in France. By a stroke of luck she was sent to America in her teenage years as an exchange student. In America, she was introduced to brownies and cookies - which quickly became favorites. In no time at all, Mirelle put on twenty pounds. When it was time to return home she was a little nervous about what her family and friends would think of the "new" Mirelle. The story of seeing her family for the first time after being away is funny and heart wrenching at the same time. I can't do justice to this story, so I would recommend buying the book and reading it on your own. Later, her mother set up a secret meeting with their family physician, "Dr. Miracle", who helped her to shed the extra pounds, and more importantly, taught her how to live like a French Woman.

This book is not a miracle diet. In fact, French Women Don't Get Fat isn't a "diet" book at all. What it does is suggest ways to help you live a balanced, healthier lifestyle. The first thing the book suggests is to take an inventory of what you eat for a couple of weeks. By looking at your food journal, you should be able to see what your "offenders" are - meaning what foods you are overeating. For example, Mirelle's offenders were sweets. Once you recognize what foods you are eating out of balance, your next step is to identify why you overeat in this category. For example, if your "offender" is bread, you might notice that you are eating a lot of bread when you go to restaurants. You could then decide to only have one slice before your meal comes. The book also discusses changing the way you think. You aren't skimping on the bread because you are depriving yourself something you love, you are merely saving room for other things. The pleasure of most foods is in the first few bites, as French Women Don't Get Fat points out. After that we are just eating on autopilot. If you can avoid eating without thinking, you can avoid eating excess food. French women eat with their heads and do not leave the table feeling stuffed or guilty.

Another secret of the French this book points to is drinking more water. We all know that water is good for us, but how many of us really drink as much as we should? The secret is to add water to your daily routine. Drink a glass of water before you eat your breakfast. Once you have established this as part of your routine, then add another glass before going to bed. French Women Don't Get Fat reminds us that sleeping is a very de hydrating process. When both of these are routine, make it a habit to drink water each time you pass a water fountain. French women drink water all throughout the day.

Once you are drinking more water, you will probably feel healthier than ever. Since water has no calories, no preservatives, and nothing extra added, you might find that you are interested in the ingredients of the other foods you are consuming. Have you ever read the list of ingredients in a frozen dinner? What is all of that stuff? Why are we consuming things we can't even pronounce? Another key to eating like the French is what the author of this book calls "Ritual Preparation." While she lived at home, Mireille's mother prepared almost all of the food that she consumed. None of it was filled with preservatives, and most everything was fresh. French Women Don't Get Fat recommends going to the market several times a week, and selecting the freshest ingredients. By market the book is referring t o a farmers market, and not the supermarket. Quality ingredients equal quality food. When you are eating quality, you won't need the quantity to make up for the lack of taste. Also, set the table like you would find at a restaurant - real napkins even. The extra attention to details will help you remember to savor your food. Also, sit down as a family, and turn off the television. Make meal time a ritual.

According to this book, you also need to move like a French woman. We aren't talking about hours of grueling exercise at the gym. What we are talking about is adding more movement to your daily routine. Walk to work, or if you work too far, then get off the train one stop early and walk the rest of the way to work. Or, add in a daily walk before eating breakfast. Take the stairs instead of the elevator when possible. French Women Don't Get Fat advised to not avoid precious steps: think of ways to add in more movement to your daily routine.

This book als o includes recipes for foods such as Grilled Spring Lamb Shops, Asparagus Flan, Cauliflower Gratin, Grilled Chicken with Rosemary, Egg Omelet with Mixed Herbs and Ricotta Cheese, among many others. Since the French enjoy bread so much, recipes for Baguettes and Croissants are included too. The book has menu ideas as well.

If you need a good book to inspire you to lose a little weight so that you feel good about yourself, then French Women Don't Get Fat is where you should turn. Because the focus of this book is not about depriving yourself of good things, but about making focused choices to help you accomplish something even better, you will be motivated to change a few of your bad habits into good habits - and therefore live a more fulfilled and slimmer life.

The Folly of Diet Recipes

Have you ever wondered why diet books always seem to have a section of recipes?

Apart from the desire to make the book look larger and therefore more worth its inflated price, why should we be so interested in studying foods and ways to serve it when we are trying to avoid it as much as possible?

It is inconceivable that we have reached adulthood without the basic skills to boil, bake, steam, or roast our food.

We all know that these are the only low fat methods we should be using on any diet. And whatever we eat, plainer is better to control calories.

So what are all these recipes doing in a book that is supposed to be redirecting our attention away from food?

Is it a case of mutual fool-yourself-time?

The diet authors know that unless their menus have taste, and enticing pictures or detailed ingredient lists, no one will select their plan and they'll lose money. In their real diet plan outline, they identify what is allowed and w hat is forbidden. Their recipe section might have been written by someone else. Certainly there are substitutions made to qualify as diet food but desserts, dips, and brunches?

Unless you're a marathon runner (who is unlikely to have overweight problems anyway), why would you ever think that a weight loss diet includes dessert? Dieting is about the exclusion of certain foods. Substitution may work well for basics such as salad dressings and entree additions, but complete elimination of dessert, colas, and candy are an absolute given if your weight control plans are to have any chance of success, The fact that chocolate has some acceptable nutrients doesn't mean that it belongs on a weight loss diet. (I know that some diet guru is, even as you read this, developing a chocolate diet that will bring in millions!)

We bury our heads in the sand, keep taunting ourselves with those addictive sweet flavors, and crow about the minimal number of calories in a serving of the dish (a thimbleful size - check the small print on how many people this little dish is supposed to serve).

Admit it, the only reason we crave recipes is to spice something up, to increase our pleasure and make the whole dieting task less painful. We can eat food plain without any fancy recipes but that would be no fun.

So we convince ourselves that all the stuff we are adding to our basics: low fat gravy, liquid margarine instead of butter, lemon and capers in place of tartar sauce, vinegar and oil rather than creamy Ranch, and a variety of sugar substitutes are all allowed in our plan so we might as well enjoy.

And then we are surprised and disappointed when the weight loss stops.

It must be my glands!

Shifting Calories Diet - Shift Your Body From Flab to Fit

There is a new and extremely popular diet theory on the market called calorie shifting.  This theory has been around for a while, but only recently has a diet created and advertised to the public.  I am going to tell you about this shifting calories diet, and at the bottom, I will tell you where you can find the book that started it all.

The theory has been in circulation for some time now, and many of us are realizing the potential of the shifting calories diet these days. The plan is simple and easy to undergo. Most conventional weight loss programs force us to lay off mouth watering food for long periods. Lack of availability of fat and carbohydrates bring in additional health problems. Burning of fat is essential for producing energy.  And when you produce energy, you burn calories and lose weight.

The first process involved in this diet plan is to find out your calorie requirement per day depending on your weight. The first two days of the program in volves eating excess calories. Your body will start working overtime to burn off all the excess calories, fat, and carbs your body has accumulated. The next five days, you bring down the calorie intake to less than the essential levels.  You will eat every three hours and certain foods to maximize the efficiency of your metabolism. Your body would still continue to burn calories at the higher levels of the previous two days.

Continue this inflating and deflating process several times and even before you know it, you excess flab is removed. Lack of side affects, detoxification, and overall safeness are the biggest advantages of the shifting calories diet.

Buy the Shifting Calories book, and put calorie shifting to work for you.

Atkins Diet - A Straight-up Review.

My husband and I went on the atkins diet several years ago. This is the first time my husband has done any dieting. I on the other hand have tried every diet know to mankind. Of course he dropped 10 pounds the first week, and could not understand why I am always saying that weight loss is difficult. I did lose 6 pounds the first week so I had to agree that the diet was working.

The first two weeks were difficult to get used to eating only low carbohydrate foods. Once we got past that two week mark we found that it was an easy diet for us to follow. On the atkins diet you eat mostly protein. My husband has always been a big meat eater so that part was easy. It was more difficult for him to give up the potatoes and bread that he ate along with his meat. We needed to find alternative foods that were allowed
on the atkins diet.

I bought the atkins diet book which not only outlines the diet but also has recipes. It is amazing how you can eat a lot of food on the atkins diet and still lose weight. The main challenge is getting some variety into your meals. When we first started the atkins diet the dinner meal was very easy to prepare. We would have some type of protein, fish, animal protein, chicken or beef and a large leafy salad with bleu cheese dressing. This was not that different than what we ate before it was just minus the potato and bread.

After a few weeks the lack of variety started to bore us. We were both losing weight, so that helped keep us motivated, but we were getting tired of the same meal each night. Then I discovered some of the recipes in the back of the atkins diet book. Our favorite is mashed cauliflower. It is the same texture as mashed potatoes. The atkins diet book also had a recipe for a salad that has all the same ingredients as potato salad, minus the potatoes. You substitute cooked cauliflower. I was doubtful at first, but it tastes wonderful.

Over the years we have added carbohydrates back into out diet. Initially we both gained some of the weight back, but now we have found the right balance for each of us. Long term with very low carbohydrates did not fit our life style, or taste buds, but the atkins diet was an effective way for us to take off pounds.

Weight Control Diet Success – Part One

A lot of weight control diet experts start out their books with the following statement:

"The people who are successful at losing weight are the ones with the right attitude - they believe they will be successful."

I don't know about you, but I find this just a little confusing. If you've already tried 10 diets, and all of them worked (for a while) but you now weigh more than you ever have in your life, how are you going to force yourself into believing that you'll be successful this time?

And if you don't believe it, should you even bother trying to another weight loss plan?

Some experts believe you'll get the "right attitude" if they remind you about all the chronic diseases caused by obesity. Being scared is a great motivator, for sure - and total honesty can really help. But will fear alone help you become one of the tiny fraction of dieters who are able to lose weight and then keep it off for a year or more ? Or will it just cause more stress?

Other weight loss experts try to act like cheerleaders, doing a printed version of "rah, rah, rah!" This is supposed to infuse you with their enthusiasm. It actually works, for a while. But the excitement wears off as you're faced with the real-world challenges of losing weight.

And some diet book authors suggest that you chant affirmations on a regular basis. This can help reduce your stress level if you use it as a meditation technique. However, affirmations by themselves won't make you lose weight. If you don't combine the positive thoughts with positive action, you're just engaging in some wishful thinking.

I think we need to take a good look at the idea that you need the right attitude in order to succeed. It implies that you will be successful only if you can change the way you feel. If you think of the people you admire most and who have become successful in any field, one of the thing s you'll notice is that successful people do what is needed at any given time - regardless of whether or not they "feel like it".

There are days in every person's life when he or she doesn't want to get up in the morning. It even happens to successful people. But successful people get up anyway, and do what needs to get done. In fact, it may be the action itself that creates the enthusiasm that is so evident in the people we most admire.

In other words, you don't need to feel motivated. You need to be willing to take positive action. If you've recently purchased a diet book and you're taking your precious time to read it, that in itself is proof that you're willing to take action.

Even if you have 40 diet books on your shelf, and you are still overweight, that doesn't prove that you aren't willing to take action. Your previous failed attempts just mean that you have not yet discovered the techniques needed to overcome your natu ral drive to overeat or to eat the wrong food. Successful business people often start many failing businesses before they find the right combination that puts them at the top of their field.

Successful people don't think of past failures as reasons to quit – they think of past failures as learning experiences, and part of the dues they have to pay before they can be successful.

So if you're thinking about starting one more weight control diet, don't worry about whether or not you have the "right" attitude. You can change your diet, your health, and your life. Just keep learning all you can about good nutrition and about how your food choices affect your health; join a support group if you need to; or find a nutritional counselor or behavioral counselor if you think you could use their support. Do what it takes.

Even if you've failed with a diet in the past, you have the "right" attitude as long as you're willing to give it another try.

Natural Gout Treatment – the Rules of a Gout Diet That Had a Lot of Success

This is the first of an article series about this diet. See the bottom of this article for how to read the second article.

Natural gout treatment largely involves diet. The most widely touted gout diet for sufferers of "the disease of kings," is the low purine gout diet. The cause of gout theory behind it is that because uric acid is made from purines, and because uric acid is the gout culprit, purine intake from foods and beverages should be restricted.

But some studies have found that a low purine gout diet has no effect on uric acid levels. Most likely one reason is because most uric acid in the body is made in the liver from purine molecules of DNA and RNA, and not from the purines in foods and beverages. Another reason may be that the problem for a gout sufferer is not that he/she is producing too much uric acid but that he/she is not excreting enough.

There is another cause of gout theory, which is that excess uric acid (hyperuricemia) is the result of insulin resistance, the pre type 2 diabetes condition. Insulin resistance in gout has been the subject of many studies. Simply put, insulin resistance is the condition where the cells become more resistant to allowing insulin to deliver glucose (mainly broken down from carbohydrate in foods) to them, for the purpose of energy creation. It's as if the jailer refuses to open the door of the cell. It's one of the causes of excess insulin. Excess insulin has been found in a number of studies to inhibit uric acid excretion as well as causing other problems.

To examine whether a diet could affect the markers that show insulin resistance exists, and

lower uric acid levels, researchers in South Africa put 13 males, all gout sufferers, on a diet governed by three cardinal rules of the Zone diet, the well-known diet book written in the 1990's by Barry Sears PhD.

RULES

Calories were restricted to 1,600 a day: 40% from carbohydrates, 30% from protein and 30% from mono and poly unsaturated fats.

Refined carbohydrate foods were swapped for complex carbohydrate foods. i.e. they ate complex carbohydrates, not refined carbohydrates. Complex carbohydrates can be found in foods made from whole grains, (eg. whole grain flours and products made from them), and in many vegetables, low sugar fruits and beans.

Refined and simple carbohydrates are found in foods made from refined grains (for example refined flours which are the basis for pasta, breads, cakes, biscuits (cookies) pies, pastries); white rice; and most cereals. And notably from sugars with the exception of fruit sugar,(fructose) and galactose. Simple carbohydrates include corn and other syrups, table sugar and honey; candies (sweets); processed foods with added sugar; and some fruits and vegetables.

Complex carbohydrates are lower on the Glycemic Index ( GI) scale than refined carbohydrates because they have a slower effect on blood glucose, and so the response of insulin to blood glucose is slower and more moderate. Insulin is much more responsive to refined and simple carbohydrates.

There isn't space in this article to explain more about the difference between complex and refined carbohydrates. If you're not sure, the subject is easily researched on the Internet. For example, do an Internet search for "Glycemic Index," or "Glycemic Load."

Fats Saturated fats, which are among the fats found in meat fat, dairy products, beef tallow (beef dripping) and lard, were swapped for monounsaturated fats (e.g. olive oil, canola oil) and polyunsaturated fats, (oils such as corn, sunflower and soybean oils). However, in the study, participants took polyunsaturated fats from fish. They were advised to eat fish at least four times a week during the study, even fish that are high purine such as mackerel.

Meat and Alcohol They also ate meat, no doubt lean meat since mono and polyunsaturated fats were encouraged. (Meat does contain both these fats, as well as saturated fats). Participants' alcohol consumption was moderate, there were no alcohol rules, and it remained the same as usual.

So in this diet there was moderate restriction of calories and carbohydrate, and control over proportional consumption of carbohydrate, protein and of fats. In the Zone diet the number of calories you get from food should be in the proportions of: from carbohydrates (40%), from protein (30%) and from fat (30%). This is one of the principles at the core of the diet. These proportions, or numbers close to them (getting more or less there is allowed) should be eaten at every meal and snack too. In the study, participants were asked to keep to these proportions at each meal, and they were encouraged to eat 3 to 5 meals and snacks daily, another Zone diet rule.

Anyone going on the Zone diet will have their personal daily carbohydrate, protein, and fat requirement. How to discover it is explained in Barry Sears' "Enter the Zone" book. The amount of protein you can eat determines the amounts of carbohydrates and unsaturated fats, in the 4:3:3 proportions, you can eat. Why the 4:3:3 rule is important is also explained in the book. If you know about soccer, you can think of the 4:3:3 rule as the commonly used soccer team formation. Or, another way of putting it, is to say that calories from protein are 0.75 (75%) of calories from carbohydrate and calories from fat are in the same proportion as calories from protein. Getting almost to 4:3:3 is allowed.

Diet, Nutrition and Exercise Simplified - 9 Steps To Make You Lose Weight Easily!

Are you tired of reading diet books or exercise books that are hundreds of pages long with even more pages worth of recipes or workout routines? I know I am, I think I may have wasted many days worth of reading time going through the newest/most popular exercise routine or diet book to try and get in shape…truth is reading does not burn calories or tone muscle, taking action does!

And luckily for you and me all Diet, Nutrition and Exercise books have a few simple things in common that will work and always work when it comes to losing weight. Just think of the following points as the 9 easiest ways to lose weight…

Diet

1.       Eat More Regularly – Eat 5 or six fist sized meals a day to keep your metabolism kicking. This stops so much fat being absorbed from your food and ending up on your waistline. And don't miss out on breakfast ever!

2.       Stop Eating Two Hours Before Bedtime – Your body tends to s low down at this time of day and you're not going to exercise before bed are you? This is an easy way to pile on the pounds…cut it out and lose weight easily.

3.       Treat Yourself – One day a week go mad and eat whatever you like, not a great way to cut down on calories but it is a great way to keep you satisfied. The majority of people who fail on a diet fail because their diet does not make them happy. This is the best technique to help you stick to a diet and lose weight.

Nutrition

1.       Avoid White Carbohydrates or Sugars – Always eat whole wheat, wholegrain, brown or other healthy low GI carbohydrates such as sweet potato's parsnips, beans etc. Examples of Low GI foods and the simplest of all carbohydrates to avoid is sugar.

2.       Eat More Protein – 1g of protein per pound of your body weight is a great way to keep your metabolism running strong and fuel your muscles effectively. Muscle is the best tissue to have so you look good and have the ability to burn body fat. If you can't get enough protein from food on its own try a whey protein supplement. Example of Whey Protein

3.       Eat your Vegetables – Packed with antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and a great way to slow down your appetite and not up your calorie intake. A great slimming solution!

Exercise

1.       Break A Sweat – If you are serious about losing weight then gentle walking isn't going to cut it. Breaking a sweat and getting your heart rate up is the only way in which your body can burn enough calories to effectively burn body fat. Remember this when exercising.

< p>2.       Do Exercise You Enjoy – I personally enjoy weight training but everyone is different. If you don't enjoy the exercise you are doing or have negative associations with it then you won't do it! Simple really…Do something you enjoy and you will reap the benefits and be happier for it.

3.       Get The Edge Over Exercise - Exercise gives great weight loss results but these results can be better. How? Using Supplements like thermogenic fat burners and whey protein give you the edge to improve the fat burning results greatly. Look for Fat Burners containing Sinetrol, Green Tea Extract, Cayenne, Naringen and Caffeine Anhydrous.

Now you know the most basic and most effective tips to make you lose weight easily and stay in shape. For more information or weight loss supplements visit Pound Droppers.

Are Diet Fads The Enemies of Weight Loss

While dieters may be attracted to diet plans promoted by celebrities, they should be careful of taking the word of individuals who probably have no nutritional or medical training and who are likely to be just good salespeople. Consumers are advised to question celebrity-inspired diet books, say Annette B. Natow and Jo-Ann Heslin, authors of Get Skinny the Smart Way. These books may be based on nutritional fictions, and while the diets described in such books may provide weight loss in the short term, they may be unhealthy when followed for any significant length of time. Dieters should choose to follow plans established by nutritional experts.

Diet fads aren't limited to programs sponsored by celebrities. The so-called grapefruit diet, which requires eating a grapefruit before each meal, has been a popular fad diet for some time. Other fad diets include the cabbage soup diet in which unlimited amounts of cabbage soup may be consumed, or the raw egg diet in which di eters eat all the raw eggs they can handle. Fad diets may recommend eating only raw foods or fasting every other day. These diets are based on misinformation and may even be dangerous. The cabbage soup diet, for example, has not been endorsed by any major health organization, and it could actually cause harm. The diet claims to provide losses as high as 15 pounds per week, but does not mention that most of this is water. The American Heart Association notes that this diet can be dangerous, and once dieters eat normally again, they will regain their lost weight. Side-effects associated with this diet include weakness, pains in the stomach, and diarrhea.

Another fad diet approach is food combining. The rationale behind this diet states that people are overweight because they do not consume the appropriate combination of foods. The diet may require its followers to do arbitrary things, like eat a banana only in the morning. This is nonsense, since the stomach can handle a variety of foods at one time. The diet does promote eating low-calorie foods, but there are better methods available that will accomplish the same thing.

Some weight-loss companies claim that weight can be lost by dreaming. By using their product before bed, dieters will lose weight. This claim is totally incredible. It is impossible to lose any significant number of calories while sleeping. Other questionable diets promote the loss of weight through eating special candy bars or milkshakes. These products generally consist of milk and candy to which vitamins and minerals have been added. They rarely satisfy the appetite and may actually encourage dieters to eat more throughout the day.

The truth is that there is a lot of money to be made in the marketing and sale of diet products. As long as there are overweight people, companies will try to profit from them. Dieters must become wise enough to recognize a fad diet for what it is. There are no short cuts to we ight loss. A successful program requires commitment, patience, and determination, as well as a willingness to alter eating patterns.

South Beach Diet Or Another Fad Diet?

I have thoroughly researched this diet and am giving you every detail of south beach diet for information.

South beach diet book is founded on the premise that switching to good carbs stops insulin resistance and curbs appetite which leads to weight loss. Also, good fats protect the heart and prevent hunger.

But this is hardly true as you will learn after reading this article.

South beach diet book offers a simplistic solution to weight loss. All you need to do is eat good carbs like whole grains, vegetables and beans instead of eating bad carbs like sugar white breads and potatoes.

the diet says, fast sugars are worst for dieters and slow sugars are good.

And how are these foods classified as fast or slow? The Glycemic Index.

According to the diet, the food having a high Glycemic Index causes the blood sugar to spike (go up) immedietly after having the meal, whereas the food with a lower GI does not drastically shoot up the blood sugar levels.

But this theory is only partially true. Yes, the foods with high GI are good for diabetics in helping them to keep their blood sugar levels in check, but contrary to popular belief, the glycemic index of a certain food is not the same.i.e. it depends on how the food is processed, stored, ripened and cooked.

Further, the diet is formulated on the premise that good carbs like whole grains have a low glycemic index and bad carbs like sugars, white flour and refined grains have a higher GI.

BUT THE TRUTH IS....

Bread is high GI whether whole wheat or white because it is made from finely ground flour.

Pasta is low GI, whether whole or white(thin languine has a high GI as compared to the thick one)

"Instant white" rice is low GI whereas "Uncle bens converted white" rice is high GI.

Take the case of sugars...Glucose is high GI, Sucrose is mediu m GI and fructose is low GI

This illustrates that recommending foods based on GI is confusing as well as misleading. On top of it all, there is no research to support the claim that the rise in blood sugar by eating high GI foods leads to high blood insulin levels, and that this leads people to overeat.

To summarise...there is no evidence to suggest that eating low GI foods leads to weight loss.

Now lets have a look at the diet menu.

South beach diet book claims that you won't feel hungry while on this diet. This is impossible considering the fact that some of the menus average only 1200 calories, which is too low not to feel hungry.

The diet encourages you to eat seafood, chicken breast, lean meat, vegetables, whole grains, some fruits, beans, low fat cheese, nuts, oils and whole grains. fatty meats, high fat cheese, refined grains, sweets, juice and potatoes.

The choice of foods in this diet plan are somewhat healthy compared to other leading plans like ATKINS but restricting the consumption of carrots, bananas, pineapple and watermelon is the worst part of beach diet.

The meal plan consists of three phases :

Phase 1 of beach diet :

You are allowed to eat normal size helpings of chicken, meat, turkey, fish and shellfish, vegetables, eggs, cheese and nuts. You can have three meals per day. Desserts, coffee and tea are also allowed.

But for the first 14 days you are not allowed to eat bread, rice, potatoes, pasta or baked goods and even fruits!

Phase 2 of beach diet :

You can slowly begin to reintroduce carbs into your diet again. The diet advices you to take all the forbidden foods in phase 1 like bread, pasta, fruits etc. in moderate quantities but at the same time not as much as you were having before.

Phase 3 of beach diet:

This part is the most relaxed. Dr.Agastson says that you can now forget that you are on a diet. He says that now onwards it is just a healthy lifestyle you are used to, and going to adhere for the rest of your life.

All in all, south diet is one more money spinning fad diet for the creator of this weight loss program and a phsychological prop(support) for people who are allways hopping from one diet to the other in search of a hollywood like sexy body.

The initial weight loss caused by this diet is on account of calorie restriction and not because of low Glycemic Index or an invisible switch as Dr. Agastson's marketing language wants you to believe.

Your health could be 100 times better without south beach diet weight loss program,if you choose healthy foods like green vegetables, whole grains, fiber rich foods and vegetables.

And if you are eager to lose those extra pounds, why not do it the most natural way with the weight loss principles of Ayurveda medicinal scien ce?

This is the most effective long term, scientifically proven solution to excess fat.
